Companion Species workshop and Carnival
AT MATADERO MADRID AND DIMAD
From its origins, Carnival party in Madrid has shown a humorous vision of the official culture. In this Workshop "Companion Species Carnival" the mutualism between living species and the questioning of anthropocentrism has been the main inspiration for creation.
We can think of fashion not only as an expression of ourselves, but as a designed second skins to relate to other companion species. Costumes are no longer just costumes, they can bring us closer to other ways of living, communicating and sensing between human and non-human species.
This workshop has taken place at Matadero Madrid and DIMAD within the framekor of Madrid Design Festival 2022, where design students from different schools of the city have worked together with the artist Raquel Buj (Buj Studio) and her team, creating together costumes inspired by new relations between human and non-human species. These pieces have been shown at a performance in Matadero called “Carnaval de las Camaradas Terrestres” and were worn by the creators.
